Top 5 Most Highly Anticipated Games Your Girl Will Want: by Phoenix
October 20, 2010 09:34 PM PDT
There is nothing like waiting patiently for video game developers to release new games, but have you ever wondered what the female next to you may be secretly anticipating? There is nothing like being able to buy or rent a game that can score you brownie points with the opposite sex. Well at CrushCast we have a few choices for you, from a female’s perspective. Here are the top 5 games on our list just to give you an idea. LittleBigPlanet 2 has everyone buzzing about its new innovative additions. From new abilities to a whole different way to play the game with the addition of the Move controller. This new adventure by Media Molecule will be filled with create as you go game play. New characters join Sackboy as he journeys through never before seen worlds and, with grappling hooks in hand, swing through a very colorful environment. The new PLAY, CREATE, and SHARE tools let you create any kind of game imaginable from mini games to shooters. Also, with the addition of the new Move controller for the cooperative mode, this game becomes easy enough even for your grandmother. Little Big Planet 2 is set to be released on January 18th, 2011. There is nothing better than a great fighting game, and Capcom is bringing us yet another with Marvel vs. Capcom 3. On the Marvel side, you have characters like Wolverine, Iron Man, Magneto, Thor and other favorites. Capcom has a lineup that will include Wesker, Ryu, Arthur, Dante and more. This game is so overwhelmingly beautiful and so vibrantly colorful, that it looks like it popped right out of a comic book. The characters have been moved into 3D models instead of the flat looking characters of before. As far as we know, there will be more than 30 characters in this game giving you a vast selection of fighters. With amazing graphics and new characters, this game will most definitely be in the running for game of the year. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is set to release in the spring of 2011. When the real world we live in becomes a bit hard to bare, we will be able to dive into Final Fantasy XIV for the PS3 in March. In this game, there will be a new realm to explore called Eorzea. This new Final Fantasy game will allow you to customize your avatar to your liking, giving him or her a very original look. With the addition of the Armoury, you will also be able to choose you characters by trade from Disciples of War, Magic, Land, or Hand, giving you the option to specialize in one skill or use each one as you see fit. The graphics are amazing and very detailed. Everything about this game screams fantasy. This game is so vast and filled with so much to do and see, that’s it’s hard to put into just a few sentences. Final Fantasy XIV will be released March 31st, 2011. Mortal Kombat has a great history as one of the most intense and legendary fighting games of all time. The one thing we never forget about this game are the quotes “Get Over Here”, “Finish Him” and “Fatality” , which ring in your ears forever. Not only is this going to be the most epic game of the year for most, but it’s design and brutality will top all others. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment bring you a new storyline, online multiplayer and also all of the legendary players with some resurrected from the dead. This game will have different game modes like 4 player tag-team, versus mode both offline and online multiplayer and also co-op arcade mode. This is the one game you don‘t want to miss for sure. Mortal Kombat is set to be released in 2011. A game set in the sky where you have to save a damsel in distress or maybe she has to save you. Either way Irrational Games is developing BioShock Infinite. This first person shooter will bring you out of Rapture and place you on unfamiliar ground, or should I say air. The setting is a city in the sky called Columbia and you will play as Booker DeWitt. Your objective is to rescue a young woman named Elizabeth who has very interesting abilities of her own. The twist in the story is that the city is falling from the sky and you have to struggle to hold on and not fall to a plummeting death. With the bad guys on your tail you have to learn how to not only fight on solid ground but also in areas where there is little to hold on to. BioShock Infinite is set for release in 2012. With that said, you can tell that there are a few really good games that you will be able to play with just about any female. It's just finding the right game to fit your needs that becomes a challenge. Just don't be discouraged and if need be you can always ask the girls from CrushCast for some direction. With all the hype for the new Mortal Kombat game, my anticipation grows by the minute. Mortal Kombat was the first fighting game I ever picked up and fell in love with. Now I am patiently waiting but 2011 can't get here fast enough. This has to be my number one most anticipated game of 2011.
Diskless Netflix for your PS3 : by Phoenix
October 18, 2010 03:34 PM PDT
There is nothing better than sitting on your couch and watching a movie without having to change out disks or DVDs. That is the whole reason behind Netflix. Today Netflix and Playstation have eliminated the need to insert the Netflix disk into your PS3. Now you don't have to worry about your disk getting scratched or misplaced. All you have to do is turn on your PS3 and there it is. Source: Playstation.BLOG http://blog.us.playstation.com/ Their new browser interface is also a huge plus and so much easier to use. If you own a PS3 all you have to do is go into the Playstation What's New Section and download the application and once downloaded, it automatically appears under the video section. You can also find the application in the XMB but for me it was easier to download it from the What's New Section. You will also be able to watch some movies and TV shows in full 1080p which is a huge thing for us that have HD TVs. As far as usage this new application is easy to use and search for whatever you want to watch. The search tool is a great addition to the system. It also has a suggestion section where Netflix gives you a list of movies and shows you may like. The New Arrivals section has been added right to the front page which makes it easier to find and navigate through. Also added to the front page are the Genres, Instant Queue and Search sections of Netflix. I really like the new color scheme and the design as a whole is better looking than before. All of this makes it much easier on the eyes when scrolling from one section to another. All in all, I believe that I am actually going to enjoy the new and improved Netflix for PS3. It is so easy to use that I may just start using it more often. And I do have to say if you haven't downloaded this application for your PS3, you really need to do so. Besides its FREE! September 16, 2010 02:34 PM PDT
The year is 2552 and the covenant are invading the planet Reach. You're the new member of an elite group of super soldiers called Team NOBLE. You the player are armed with a new array of weapons and interchangeable powers. Your mission is to stop the covenant invasion at all costs. Boasting an original story and new characters this game is a departure from previous Halo titles. There were a few things we thought could have used some work . At times the voice acting seemed stilted and unnatural. The characters voices seemed to have a lack of passion and true sense of their emotion. Also some of the missions felt repetitive, though the backtracking from previous installments is not nearly as bad. Even though there is quite a large amount of new vehicles and weapons, the opportunities for their use doesn't come up too often. We found to be using the same guns more often than not. We both were playing on two fast connections, but sometimes got a bit of lag and "trying to find new host". This lag was never bad enough to kick us or make the game too unplayable, though. The length was far too short, in both of our opinions. Another few acts would have been perfect. The planet Reach envelops you from the beginning of the game, making you fall in love with it and wanting to defend all the more. All around the graphics are much smoother, and the cinematics more enjoyable. Using little tricks, like the surveillance camera angles, and other forms of point of views, it immerses you into the cut-scene. The narrative and story arc are quite well written, making it all the more easier to lose yourself in the Halo universe. Doing away with the dual wielding weapons from the last Halo games, it allows the weapons to be more balanced. Some of the weapons have lower ammo capacity, which forced you to switch out guns and keep you on your toes continually. The gunfights seemed to be more tactical with environmental explosions that can be triggered several ways. They also seemed to be more fast paced as the AI would rush you and try and flank you instead of shooting from cover, hanging back. Why not groundbreaking, this is an immensely enjoyable game. We believe that any Halo fan would want to play this right away. Especially it being Bungies last production of Halo. So grab a controller and let Halo Reach take control. Now lets see about adding some skulls and cranking it up... Crush Rating: 4.5 out 5 by:Redonkolouz and Joyfully Insane CrushCast Episode 3

September 01, 2010 05:30 PM PDT
Well what can I say about Mafia II.... I was thoroughly engrossed in this game, I am a big fan of gangster and mafioso flicks ,which this game draws a lot of influence from. You have your Godfather moments as well as moments from other greats such as Goodfellas. Well all the same, the game starts as the main protagonist ,Sicilian born Vito Scaletta is in World War 2 Italy ,which is cool because the first act of the game you actually fight the Italian army, and the scene ends right before your about to be executed. A Don or man of great respect, rides into town on a Sherman tank and convinces the soldiers to surrender to the allies, so Vito gets sent home on leave and you meet up with his long time buddy and "goomba" Joe Barbaro. Joe arranges it so that Vito doesn't have to go back to the war by forging some documents and this is where his life of crime starts in Empire Bay. In Vito's words "the working man is a sucker" so here's where the fun begins. You start off small time working for various under bosses as a "earner" for a crime family. Its feels like a open world game similar to Grand Theft Auto but is cut short because you find out early in the game their are not many side missions per say, other than taking some cars to the crusher and selling off stolen sports cars. I think the developers purposely did this to focus on the main story line. Anyway you do various jobs like steal gas stamps from the ration office and sell them to the local gas stations, do hits, steal cars as well as getting some seriously classy threads, I might add. Also you get to do things like soup up the awesome car you just stole, but watch out, if the cops see you jacking cars then a chase ensues so lose them fast and change your plates at your local garage. While your at it, might as well add the new paint job and rims to your new car. I found myself in one instance where I had just robbed a clothing store at gunpoint, lost the cops chasing me, came back 5 minutes later to buy some threads and the clerk was giving the cops my description and yells "that's him that's the guy that robed me". The cops lite me up with their snub nosed .38 revolvers, I really got a kick outta the whole scene. There were a few things I disliked about Mafia II. The world feels empty, even though, its filled with NPC's there isn't any real life like elements to it. The targeting system is fluid but there are a few glitches. When you come out of cover you are open for all the enemies to get you and even when in cover you can still be hit by bullets even behind a concrete or brick wall. Luckily your health does recharge so you are forced to pop out, shoot and go back to cover offering no creative ways to kill your enemies. There are moments that mix it up where you have to be stealthy and take out your enemies but they are few and far between. The check point locations are aggravating. You spend about half an hour trying to kill the enemy shooting at you and someone gets a lucky shot on you. At this point its all over and you have to grudgingly trudge back through them until the next checkpoint is reached. So be prepared to have some angry moments! Those things aside I still enjoyed the game. There were so many good points about the game that I really did enjoy. Overall the graphics are done really well. you can tell there was a lot of time and effort put into the design of the characters. They have collectible Playboys scattered through out the game with an achievement called "ladies man" that you can find, if that's your thing. There are also wanted posters of various old school gangsters which are very interesting. Also there are points in the game where you can get small achievements such as the "know how to treat a lady" where a woman accidentally runs into a mans car. Well, he steps out and starts giving the woman a hard time and threatens to "smack her one", so its Vito to the rescue you "dook" it out with the ruffian and teach him how to treat a lady. It's these small things in the game that really make it fun and enjoyable as well as other moments. Another thing I really liked about this game is instead of getting a game over for getting caught doing something, failing a mission and interrupting the flow of the game, it seamlessly flows into a different scenario. In my opinion more games should have this kind of story line flow to it. Now lets talk guns, my favorite subject. The weapons are all classic World War II era. My favorite for long range was the Kar98k and for short range action it would have to be the Remington Model 870 12 gauge Field shotgun, its pretty devastating. As for mid range I enjoyed both the 1928 Thompson and Smith and Wesson .357 magnum. At one point in the game during a mission called "kill the fat man" you get to go pick up and use a German MG42 heavy machine gun, its all great fun. The soundtrack is done amazingly with old tunes from the 40's to the early 50's which sets the mood for the game along with some of the hilarious anecdotes from the announcers on the radio. All in all this game was amazingly enjoyable and really drew me into the story line. I found myself going the extra mile just to gain achievements just because it was fun and this is something I don't normally do in games. I'm not really an achievement hound. I do have one warning, Beware parents this is a mature rated game for a reason so you don't wanna go pick this up for little Timmy....man I've been playing this game too much! Crush Rating:
Darth Abis Halo: Reach, The Question Still Remains - Redonkolouz
August 31, 2010 04:20 PM PDT
It seems a lot of people quit playing Halo with new releases such as Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2. Most Halo fans were disappointed with Halo ODST and the multiplayer content. As one unwrapped and even found a whole disc dedicated to Multiplayer itself, the gameplay still had a hard feeling of déjà vu and mundane levels such as the not textured open levels your imagination was suppose to fill. Halo: Reach is being pre-ordered and the masses of commercials are starting to be seen everywhere. Will Halo Reach, be able to reach out and grab its old core players back? Only time will tell what is in store for the future of Halo. It seems the HALO ODST online games are easier and faster to join, compared to months before as some Halo fans, such as myself, are anticipating the Septemeber 14th release date and trying to polish up those rusty skills. So are the fans going to put away the combat knives and realistic 2 shots you’re dead and ready to respawn, for the assault rifle melee and you’re ready to go in seconds? The title of their latest trailer says it all "Deliver Hope" and that is exactly what Bungie intends to do with Halo Reach. The lines will be long, the patience will dwindle but I think it’s going to be a great day for first person shooter fans and a glorious day for Halo fans everywhere. Well see ya on the frontlines either way! Redonkolouz Source: http://www.bungie.net/projects/reach/ Bioshock Infinite Trailer - Phoenix
August 28, 2010 07:06 PM PDT
I don't think I ever heard a good thing about Bioshock 2 when it first came out. Maybe that's the reason why I never bothered to pick up a copy or even rent the game. In a way I was really surprised to hear that a new Bioshock game was being released by Irrational Games, which were the original developers of the first Bioshock. Bioshock Infinite is a first person shooter set in the year 1912. The story takes place, not in Rapture, but in the city of Colombia which is in the sky. The story starts out with Booker DeWitt, a former Pinkerton agent, which has been sent to rescue an imprisoned lady named Elizabeth. While trying to escape Colombia, which is falling from the sky, DeWitt had to amplify his powers with the powers of Elizabeth. He also has to learn to fight indoors as well as in the clouds. Not only will the setting be different in this Bioshock but also some of the powers and weapons you will get to use. Now with that said, I believe that this revamped game just might make the cut this time. Maybe it's because they went with the original developers, or maybe because it is set in a new environment. Anyhow, just watching the trailer makes me want to pick this game up when it is released in 2012. Phoenix Next Page |
